Eat Better

We would all like to eat better, but somehow we don’t. One good first step is to watch where we buy food. The best decision is to buy your food at a grocery store. Many communities in America do not have this option because there are no convenient grocery stores. Pioneering Healthy Communities

We have no such excuse in Lawrence. We have seven full service grocery stores in our City, and three on our periphery.

Grocery Stores

Perhaps the best food choices are to buy fresh produce from local farmers or farmers market. The City of Lawrence is actively seeking a farmers market, but there are several already established nearby.

Sometimes eating out is the only option what is the healthiest food options when most restaurants do post the calories, fat content or sodium in their food. The web site www.healthyhoosier.org  provides a free book “Nutrition in the Fast Lane” that gives the nutrition value of most restaurants.

Perhaps the best way to get a handle on eating is to write down what we eat for a period of time. It is amazing how a few changes in food decisions can make a big change in calories consumed, and ultimately less body weight. A good web site ito start a food journal is www.my-calorie-counter.com.
