City welcomes six summer interns

Mayor Steve Collier’s Administration has initiated a summer intern program this month. He believes an internship program is an important component in retaining young talent and it gives students a chance to gain on-the-job experience.

Through hands on work, the City of Lawrence interns will learn the fundamentals of accounting, budgeting, code enforcement, and human resources this summer. The six students are undergraduates at Ball State University, Indiana University and Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.

Tim Myers is a second year intern and he will lead the team in day-to-day functions with an emphasis on policy construction.

Deputy Mayor Jason Fenwick said, “Our interns represent a diverse range of talents and abilities, and each were chosen because of how passionate they were about their fields of study.”
