ACE students meet with LPD Chief and engineers to learn about new police station construction

December 7, 2018

LPD Chief David Hofmann and officials with Garmong Construction recently hosted a group of Lawrence North and Lawrence Central High School students with the Lawrence Township ACE Mentoring Program at the site of the new police headquarters building at 5150 N. Post Road. The ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc. guides high school students and inspires them to pursue careers in architecture, construction and engineering (ACE). Their mission is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentoring and to support their continued advancement in the industry. Chief Hofmann explained the origins of the new Lawrence Police Headquarters Building project: how it developed from a mere concept more than three years ago, to the concrete walls being poured currently, to the anticipated completion and occupancy next year. Themes such as design, planning, community involvement, police officer safety and financing were discussed as a key elements of the process. This was the first-ever “community meeting” at the police headquarters site.
