City earns budget award for 3rd consecutive year
August 7, 2019
Lawrence is once again among an elite group of cities honored for their exceptional fiscal stewardship.
The Government Finance Officers Association (“GFOA”) presented the City of Lawrence with its 3rd consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for preparing and presenting a budget of the highest quality for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Lawrence is one of only three Indiana municipalities to receive this national honor.
“The Controller’s Office worked very hard on preparing this document,” Mayor Steve Collier said. “It’s great to be recognized for our continuous improvement. We wouldn’t have earned this award without the great support and team effort from employees in each and every department.
“To be recognized by the GFOA is a great honor. We met national guidelines for effective budget presentation in earning the award, and the procedures assess how well the City’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device,” said Controller Jason Fenwick.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 19,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
