Interest Form for Pre-Application Phase Open January 1st to January 31st, 2018: A local wanted check, local criminal history check for convictions (defined by IC 35-47-1-7) and a check for valid driver’s license will be conducted. The results will be forwarded to the Merit Commission for review and determination of candidate’s inclusion or exclusion.


Physical Agility Test Saturday, February 17th, 2018 from 7:00AM to 12:00PM: (There will be NO make-up dates): Approved candidate’s will be notified following the February 5th Merit Commission Meeting. Each approved applicant will be emailed the location of the physical agility and written test. If applicants pass the physical agility they will be required to take the written test the SAME DAY but at a later time. Passing applicants will be fingerprinted and will complete a form for a full criminal history to be conducted.


Applicant Summary Booklet (Due March 8th, 2018): This full application will be distributed following successful completion of the agility test. See FAQ #6 for documents needed. It is highly recommended to obtain the required documents as outlined in FAQ #6 as soon as possible. Any Applicant Summary Booklet lacking the required documents as outlined in FAQ #6 listed will result in elimination from the process, no exceptions. The completed Applicant Summary Booklet and required documents must be turned in at the start of the Oral Interview.


Written Test Saturday, February 17th, 2018: You will be required to pay $20.00, non-refundable, to take the written examination. The Written Test will be administered on February 17th . (Applicants will be notified to proceed to this phase following the successful completion of the physical agility test).


Oral Interview March 5th to March 8th, 2018: The Oral Interview phase of the hiring process will be administered the week of March 5th, 2018 (applicants who passed the written test will be notified of their appointment date and time). Your full application (Applicant Summary Booklet) and required documents must be turned in at the start of the oral interview. Applicants will be notified of passing or failing based on the minimum standards. Applicants will be notified of passing or failing based on the minimum standards. Successful completion of the Oral Interview phase City of Lawrence Application Process FAQ’s Lawrence Police Department and approval of the Merit Commission will result in the applicant proceeding to the Background Investigation phase.


Background Investigation March 19th to May 1st, 2018: Background investigations and digital voice stress analysis begin once a candidate passes the oral interview and approval of the Merit Commission.


Merit Commission May 7th, 2018: Applicant list submitted to the Merit Commission for approval. List of eligible candidates established by the Merit Commission.


Medical and Psychological Evaluation May 21st to May 25th, 2018: Any applicant given a conditional offer must meet all medical and psychological standards set by the State of Indiana. Passing of the medical and psychological evaluation will be forwarded to the Local Public Employee’s Retirement Fund (PERF) Board for review. Any applicant meeting the standards of the Local PERF Board will then be forwarded to the State PERF Board for review. If all standards have been met and approved, the applicant will begin their employment as a Probationary Police Officer.
