Trash Removal Guidelines

All customers utilizing the City of Lawrence trash removal service will be supplied with and are required to use the 96 gallon Toters provided by the City for disposing of household trash.

When the Sanitation Department delivers the Toters to the residence the Toter will be placed curb-side two (2) feet clear of any obstruction (vehicles, telephone poles, mailboxes, etc.) with the arrow located on the lid of the Toter pointing to the street.  This location and position of the Toter is where the Toter should be placed each collection day.  If multiple Toters are used (please see multiple Toters below), please allow two (2) feet in between Toters with the arrows on the lids pointing to the street.

Toters are to be placed curb-side between the hours of 6:00 pm the day prior to collection and no later than 6:00 am on the day of trash collection.

All trash must be bagged, securely fastened and placed in the Toters with the lid fully closed.

During normal trash collection days all materials must be placed in the Toter.  Bags, boxes, or other materials not placed in the Toter with the lid completely closed will not be collected.  Materials must not be placed on top of the Toter.

If your Toter was not accessible at the time of collection a tag will be placed on the item explaining why the item was not collected.  If an item is tagged please address the issue promptly to ensure the item is collected the following collection period.

Toters are the property of the City of Lawrence.  Each Toter has been imprinted with a serial number.  When Toters are delivered to customers the serial number imprinted on the Toter is recorded to the house address where it is assigned.   If a customer moves from the residence, the Toter shall remain at the residence.  Customers are responsible for the Toter provided to them.  If a Toter is damaged due to no fault of the customer, it will be repaired or replaced at no charge to the customer.

If a Toter is damaged please call the Sanitation Department at 823-8959 between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:30 pm weekdays.
