Heavy Trash Collection Heavy trash will be taken with normal trash on the first trash pickup day of each month. A Toter of normal trash and no more than 2 heavy trash Items will be collected.
Items Eligible for Heavy Trash Collection (2 Large Items Only)
Refer to City of Lawrence Code of Ordinance 5-2-3-3, “Garbage and Trash Collection”
City Ordinance provides for removal of only two (2) large items per heavy trash collection day. Those two (2) items may be:
- Furniture
- Bicycles
- Disassembled Swing Sets and other Large Toys
- Up To 2 Automobile Tires BUT ONLY IF CUT INTO FOUR PIECES ALL THE SAME SIZE
- Household Appliances
- Ranges
- Water Heaters
- Water Softeners (salt and water must be removed)
- Electronic Equipment (TV’s, Computers, etc.)
- Refrigerant containing appliances (Refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, water coolers). All refrigerant must be removed by a refrigerant recovery service and tagged with a trade standard certificate in order for refrigerant containing applicances to be collected by the City of Lawrence.
Items NOT Eligible for Heavy Trash Collection
- Vehicle Parts (i.e. Engines, Transmissions, body parts including doors, fenders, etc.)
- Hot Tubs
- Construction or demolition debris (i.e. concrete, bricks, cinder blocks, plaster, roofing, etc.)
- Dirt, sod and sand
- Paint containers
- Auto batteries
- Steel fence posts
- Gas tanks
- Oil tanks
