Lawrence Fire Chief

I would like to personally welcome you to the City of Lawrence Fire Department.

We serve a community of approximately 44,000 citizens from four fire stations with 71 career firefighters and 18 civilian EMTs and paramedics.  The fire department responded to 1217 fire runs and 6,204 EMS runs in 2009.

Our firefighters, in addition to providing fire protection, also provide Emergency Medical Services. All of our fire apparatus, three engines, rescue squad, and the ladder are staffed with paramedics.  In addition to fire apparatus, we have three basic/advanced life support ambulances that transport to all of the area hospitals.

Our firefighters, civilian EMTs and civilian paramedics are trained in top water rescue, dive rescue, line rescue, basic and heavy auto extrication, confined space rescue, and are certified at the command/operational level in hazardous materials responses.

We are very proud of the many skills that our firefighters, civilian EMTs and paramedics possess; they train daily to provide the best service to our community.

As you tour through our website, please feel free to direct any questions that you might have regarding our department to any of our divisional chief officers or to me at dcarlson@cityoflawrence.org.

Thank you for visiting our website.  We are very proud of the service that we provide to the community and welcome any questions that you may have.

Sincerely,

David W. Carlson, Fire Chief
