Spotlight On LPD Officer Kelsey Gembala

March 19, 2024

Did you know that women make up only approximately 12% of US law enforcement officers and just 3% of police leadership?

Meet Kelsey Gembala, a second shift patrol officer with the Lawrence Police Department. A proud mom to several rescue animals and organizer for LPD’s first Polar Plunge team for Special Olympics, Kelsey’s love of helping others extends beyond the badge.

Initially starting her law enforcement career in 2013, Kelsey found her calling and home in the LPD last year. Though never dreaming as a child of a role in law enforcement, Kelsey always knew she had an immense passion for helping others and giving back to her community.

Following this calling has also allowed Kelsey to realize her passion for lifelong learning and passing that knowledge to others. Having received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a Master of Public Administration degree, Kelsey is currently pursuing a Doctor of Human Services degree specializing in leadership and organizational management. Kelsey is also a certified Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, and Accident Investigator and Reconstructionist.

Kelsey has found her joy in serving with the LPD and looks forward to continuing to do throughout her career, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
