The Lawrence Police Department Records Division Hours will be:

 

Monday – Friday

8 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m.

Closed Saturday and Sunday

 

Effective Immediately:

 

If your vehicle was towed for the following reasons you may obtain a release directly from Rick’s Towing (317) 823-3475.

 

  1. Vehicles abandoned/disabled in the roadway.
  2. Vehicles owned by crime victims such as Recovered Stolen Vehicles (once the vehicle has been processed for prints if necessary) or vehicles impounded that have been abandoned and vandalized where the impound is to protect the owner from further damage.
  3. Vehicles involved in accidents.
  4. Vehicles required to be removed from the street to allow snow plow access.
  5. Vehicles towed for Indiana Statute Non-owner in possession. (This is used where the circumstances are suspicious i.e. a driver unable to give the owners name etc.)

 

Vehicles that require a release from the Lawrence Police Department are as follows:

 

  1. Driver arrested.
  2. Driver issued a traffic violation ticket.
  3. Driver is issued a Summons in lieu of outright arrest.
  4. Suspect vehicles in hit/run accidents.
  5. Vehicles otherwise involved in criminal situations.

 

Vehicle releases, gun permits & case reports are available at the LPD records office.

Vehicle Releases:

In order to obtain a release you will need to present identification showing that you are the titled and registered owner of the vehicle. Registrations must be current. If you are not the titled owner, you must have a notarized statement from the titled owner giving you permission to obtain a release on their behalf. If you possess the vehicle title you must register the vehicle in your name prior to obtaining the release. Vehicles with title only may be released to the confirmed owner as long as the vehicle will be towed from the impound lot by the owner. Unregistered vehicles are not allowed to be on the street. A release fee of $10.00 must be paid at the Records Desk which is located at 9001 E. 59th Street Lawrence, IN 46216 317-549-6404. Payment to LPD for the vehicle release may be made by cash, cashier’s check from a bank or money order. A map to the wrecker lot may be obtained from the Record’s Desk. Releases may be obtained Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. See the web page for additional holiday closures.  If you have questions regarding the release procedure you may call the Records Desk at 317-549-6404 during business hours.

If your vehicle was impounded by an agency other than the Lawrence Police Department, you will need to contact that agency for release information.

Police Reports:

Police report copies may be obtained during normal business hours by paying a fee of $5.00 per report type, i.e. Accident reports, CAD history reports, police reports. Accident reports may also be obtained on-line at BuyCrash.com (follow the information on the web page for purchase).

Fingerprint cards may be completed for those in need for a fee of $10.00.

Gun Permits:

·         All gun permits are issued using the criteria set forth by the Indiana State Police Firearms Application Procedures.

·         Handwritten packets are available in the Records Office at LPD if you do not have internet access.

·         On line applications may be found on the Indiana State Police web page found at  WWW.ISP.IN.GOV under Firearms Licensing.

·         Click on the application for hand gun license

·         Select Marion County

·         Complete the Application and hit submit.

·         Print out the confirmation notice

·         Bring the confirmation notice to the Lawrence Police Department to finalize processing.

·         Instructions for the electronic fingerprinting procedures are available on the ISP web page found at WWW.ISP.IN.GOV.
