Chief Curtis Bigsbee is a veteran of the Indiana Army National Guard, serving from 1997-2005, which included an overseas deployment on a NATO Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo in 2000.

After joining LPD in 2005, Chief Bigsbee served in various capacities including as a uniform patrol officer, Field Training Officer, Public Information Officer, Grant Writer, and a general case detective focusing primarily on Juvenile and Sex Crimes.  Chief Bigsbee was then promoted to Captain of Operations, and later became the Commander of Administration.  Chief Bigsbee served as Deputy Chief of Police for more than twelve years, focusing on the department receiving several grants prior to being appointed to Chief of Police in May of 2023.

Chief Bigsbee is a graduate of the State of Indiana Chief Executive Training School in 2014.  In 2016, he graduated from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Leadership Academy. Chief Bigsbee currently serves as a Criminal Justice Advisory for Ivy Tech Community College, and the Marion County Emergency Services Agency board.  To name a few of Chief Bigsbee’s past board appointments, he served as a member for the Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees and was a member of the Fort Harrison Reuse Authority Board of Trustees.

Chief Bigsbee earned both his Associates and Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, & Human Resources from Marian University graduating with High Honors. In 2007, he received recognition of heroism from the American Red Cross.

Chief Bigsbee is a member of the Minority Police Officers Association, and the International and Indiana Chief’s of Police Association.
