Lawrence Police invite public to ‘Leave Your Mark’ during beam signing event

March 12, 2019

Mayor Steve Collier and LPD Captain Erika Schneider joined staff and community members today signing the beam for the new police headquarters.

From March 12 - 22, The Lawrence Police Department is inviting the public to sign a steel beam that eventually will be the final beam lifted into place at the department’s new headquarters facility on Post Road. Construction at the new police station is approaching the halfway point, a significant milestone of the new home for Lawrence police officers, detectives, civilian employees, chaplains and 911-Communications Police-Fire-EMS Dispatchers.

In recognition, the Lawrence Police Department invites the public to sign the beam that will be the final one placed into the structure. The “Leave Your Mark” event will run from March 11-22, 2019 in the main lobby of the Lawrence Government Center, 9001 E. 59th Street in Lawrence.  The beam has been available for police officers, LPD employees & family signatures. It features a Thin Blue Line, LPD patches and stickers, said Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff.

The beam is available for signing daily during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) each week, and any time the Center is open for public meetings. Signing will continue until the beam is delivered to the construction site at 5150 N. Post Road March 25.

Lawrence Police Chief David Hofmann encourages all citizens to leave a signature or a message of support  for the members of LPD. He remarked that he was “beaming with pride” about this significant public safety investment in the Lawrence Community and looks forward to continued progress. Move-in is anticipated for late Fall/Winter 2019.
