New Bookstore Opens in Lawrence

September 18, 2025

Tucked away at 7115 E. 46th St. in the Lanesville neighborhood, this new nonprofit used bookstore is more than just shelves of books — it’s a community space with a mission.

Owner Christie House moved the shop to Lawrence this summer to bring affordable books to a community without another bookstore nearby. Most titles are priced between $1–$3, making reading accessible for everyone. Beyond books, Red Dog Books offers “blessing bags” with hygiene and household products for neighbors in need, and provides volunteer opportunities that build job skills.

Inside, the store is full of surprises — stacks of books, music, movies, even a stash of VHS tapes. This week, Mayor Deb Whitfield stopped by to welcome owner Christie House and celebrate Lawrence’s newest used bookstore.
