Past Mayors Ceremony

This morning, the City of Lawrence held a special memorial ceremony honoring the legacy of our past mayors. Hosted at the Lawrence Government Center, the event marked the 65th anniversary of the election of our first mayor, Morris Settles. Seven individuals have served as mayor since Lawrence became a city in 1960 — each leaving a lasting impact on our community. Today, we honored their leadership, service, and vision for the city we call home. Mayor Deb Whitfield was joined by former Mayors Dean Jessup and Steve Collier, along with the families of nearly every past mayor, to unveil a new memorial recognizing these public servants.
