New Hanging Swings Installed at Civic Plaza
September 22, 2025

The City of Lawrence Parks Department has added two new hanging swings under the pergola at Lawrence Civic Plaza, giving visitors another inviting way to relax and enjoy the season.
Located in the heart of Fort Ben at Otis Avenue and Wheeler Road, Lawrence Civic Plaza has become a vibrant gathering space for the community since its $1.5 million renovation in 2022. The Plaza now features a variety of amenities, including a wind tree that generates power for plaza outlets, outdoor seating, bike racks, a community grill, and games like dominos and cornhole.
In addition to these year-round features, the Plaza also hosts some of Lawrence’s most popular annual events, including Halloween Fest and A Lawrence Christmas.
The new swings are the latest in a series of improvements designed to make the Plaza a welcoming place for residents and visitors to relax, connect, and create lasting memories.
