Volunteers from Horizon paint Station #39

C Shift Captain Joe Milewski said he appreciates the volunteers from Horizon Christian Fellowship who provided the manpower to paint Lawrence Firehouse #39 on Richardt Street in March.

“It’s a great example of a public and private partnership,” said LFD Fire Chief Dino Batalis. He said the volunteers worked hard to apply the paint and then cleaned up the bay without interruption to department personnel. Station 39’s bay is home to the new engine, which was dedicated in February.

Milewski explained that Pastor Bill Goodrich coordinated the volunteer painters from Horizon Christian Fellowship and the LFD administration provided the paint for the project after Station 39 personnel selected the color scheme. He said most of the work was completed March 29, but the final touches were made March 30 when the bay’s project was completed.

He thanked Chaplain Mel Keaton for coordinating the project to benefit Station 39. He said, “Without Mel’s assistance, this project would have taken much longer. He was instrumental in getting this project started and completed.” Batalis also thanked the DPW Street Department for their assistance on the second day when they provided a scissor lift so the final touch-ups could be safely finished. Keaton said the painting project is part of the Adopt-A-Fire-Station, where two churches adopt one of the firehouses to support and encourage public safety personnel.
