City honors Stars & Stripes on Flag Day

June 20, 2017

This past Wednesday, June 14th, the City of Lawrence celebrated Flag Day, and recognized the 242nd birthday of the US Army with a flag raising ceremony. LPD's Captain Tim Steele, a US Army veteran, participated along with Lawrence Public Safety Chaplain Drayton Travis, also a US Army veteran. They were joined by local active duty members of the US Army. The City of Lawrence, and LPD have a long history of supporting the nation's Armed Forces, especially the US Army, given the proximity to Fort Benjamin Harrison.  Mayor Steve Collier thanked all of the current and former members of the Armed Forces for their service, and reminded the ceremony participants, freedom is not free.
