Hofmann & Batalis sign official rules for Just Wingin' It

June 28, 2017

LPD Chief David Hofmann and LFD Chief Dino Batalis were all smiles June 27 at the final meeting of Mayor Steve Collier’s Fourthfest/Just Wingin’ It committee at the Lawrence Government Center. The chiefs will lead their respective teams to this Friday’s Just Wingin’ It with our First Responders competition.

Mayor Collier presented the chiefs with this year’s team shirts. The last names of the public safety officers who will compete on the five-member squads are emblazoned on the backs of the shirts, as well as this year’s Fourthfest sponsors. Batalis said Schneider Engineering, Body Worn, and Wessler Engineering combined to present the t-shirts for this year’s competition.

Mayor Collier said t-shirts will be on sale at the event, which begins June 30 at 5 pm on Otis Avenue, outside the Sterrett Center. Proceeds from “Just Wingin’ It”, a hot chicken wings contest staged by BW3’s, pits the firemen against the policemen.

Last year, LPD won the initial battle. They hope to retain their bragging rights, Hofmann said. Batalis said his team is determined to consume the wings and drink the milk first in 2017.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Susan Jordan Legacy Fund and the Lawrence Township Foundation. Ray Cox is the emcee of the wings contest and Captain Tracey Cantrell is the celebrity DJ.
