November 1, 2018

Public Safety Chaplain Mel Keaton confirmed the seventh annual "A Lawrence Christmas" will take place Saturday, November 24 on Otis Avenue, near the Sterrett Center. Keaton said it's an event for people of all ages, to usher in the Christmas season. Children can visit Santa Claus and the kids' zone beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the competition between the city's departments for the Best Float will begin with the parade at 5:30 p.m. Keaton said a new feature this year is the red mailbox, which will accept letters to Santa until noon December 23. The shiny red mailbox will be near the tree November 24 and will then be available at the Sterrett Center. Refreshments will be served, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Mayor Steve Collier will announce the winner of the float competition, a choir will perform on Otis Avenue, and the event will end with the lighting of the Christmas tree and singing "Silent Night." Rules for the parade are posted under Community News.
