City of Lawrence Mayor Whitfield seeks action for commuters

LAWRENCE, IN – City of Lawrence Mayor Deb Whitfield sent a letter on May 28th to the President and Chief Executive Officer of CSX Transportation, Inc., Joseph A. Hinrichs, documenting the deteriorated condition of the CSX rail crossing at Post Road. The letter included photographs and a video sequence. In her letter, Mayor Whitfield stated, “Given the importance of this route to our residents and the broader community, I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you or a representative of CSX to discuss this matter further.” She also requested that CSX undertake the necessary repairs to the crossing as soon as possible.

Upon receiving the letter, CSX president Joe Hinrichs contacted Indiana Representative David Hall, who, after careful review by CSX engineers, has scheduled the requested repairs to commence during the week of July 7. CSX estimates that the project will take approximately two weeks to complete.

The city administration has contacted IndyGo to advise of the lane closure and its possible impact on the Purple Line. The city will collaborate with IndyGo to manage traffic patterns and times to ensure the Purple Line continues to serve those who utilize the route for their transportation needs.
