Citizen Academy Applications Are Now Closed
Thank you to everyone who applied for the 2025 Lawrence Police Department Citizen Academy! The application deadline has passed, and we are no longer accepting new applicants.
We’re excited to welcome our selected participants as they begin this immersive 11-week program, gaining firsthand experience in real-life policing. From crime scene investigations to ride-alongs and SWAT training, this academy is a unique opportunity to connect with our officers and better understand law enforcement in our community.

Last Call: Apply for the 2025 Citizens Police Academy!
Time is running out! The City of Lawrence Police Department is accepting applications for the 2025 Citizens Police Academy, but the deadline is February 7—just a few days away!
This 11-week program offers a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement, including hands-on training in:
- Crime Scene Investigations
- Emergency Vehicle Operations
- K-9 Unit Demonstrations
- SWAT & Use of Force Training
- Ride-Alongs with Patrol Officers
... and much more!
This is a unique opportunity to engage with our officers, learn about modern policing, and build stronger community relationships.
Classes begin March 6, 2025
Held every Thursday from 6–9 PM at LPD Training Center
