Dedication Ceremony for Engine 37

November 13, 2020

The Lawrence Fire Department held a dedication ceremony for Engine 37 this week.
The “wetdown” ceremony is a tradition from an era when horses pulled water pumps around town. After a fire, the horses and the pumps would be washed by firefighters, and the pump would be pushed back into the station. The recreation of this event signifies a new fire apparatus going into service.
This marks a significant milestone for the City of Lawrence – complete replacement of the entire Fire Fleet!
