Housing, Public Safety, Infrastructure Investment, AI, and Immigration Among the Priority Issues at Largest Annual Gathering of Mayors

LAWRENCE, IN – Mayor Deb Whitfield is traveling to Long Beach, California this week to attend the 94th Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), joining more than 200 other local leaders to discuss the latest challenges facing American cities, such as housing affordability, public safety, infrastructure investment, local-federal partnerships, artificial intelligence, and immigration policy.

At the meeting, Mayor Whitfield will participate in engaging discussions, committee meetings, and plenary sessions with fellow mayors to chart a unified agenda for America’s cities for the coming year and the nation’s 250th anniversary. The mayors will also vote on policy resolutions that will guide the Conference’s activities this year and inaugurate San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria as the 84th President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

“I’m excited to represent Lawrence at the 94th Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. I will join more than 200 other local leaders to exchange and advance solutions to the issues facing our cities” Mayor Whitfield said. “As affordable housing, public safety, and public health continue to be top of mind for Lawrence residents, I look forward to learning how fellow local leaders are tackling these issues and driving meaningful change in their communities. I’m also excited about sharing what works here in Lawrence and the preliminary successes we’ve experienced with our Live Longer in Lawrence initiative and our Housing Ready Task Force,” Whitfield stated.

“The U.S. Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting is an invaluable forum for local leaders to collaborate on solutions to the urgent challenges facing American cities. Each year, mayors from across the country come together to share success stories, develop policy solutions, and pave the way for meaningful progress”, said U.S. Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran. “We thank Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson for welcoming us to his city and graciously hosting us while we engage in this critical work”.
