MAYOR WHITFIELD ANNOUNCES EV CHARGERS FOR PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENTS
City of Lawrence begins environmental initiative with electrification
Lawrence, IN – Mayor Deb Whitfield today announced that the City of Lawrence has been awarded by AES Indiana $88,861.00 under their EV Charging Rebate Program. The Program will fund eight EV Chargers at the Lawrence Police Department and two EV Chargers at Station 38 of the Lawrence Fire Department.
AES’s EV Charging Rebates for Business Program offers financial rebates to offset the cost of installing Level 2 or DC Fast Charging for Public Use EVs. Public Use EVs are defined as vehicles used primarily to deliver goods or services to the public, such as school buses, transit buses, and public safety vehicles.
Installation of the EV Chargers began this week at the Lawrence Police Department. “We are excited to begin taking meaningful steps toward a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective transportation policy for the City of Lawrence,” stated Mayor Deb Whitfield. “This investment allows us to modernize our public safety fleet infrastructure while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. By incorporating electric vehicle technology into our operations, we are reducing long-term fuel and maintenance costs, supporting cleaner air, and positioning Lawrence as a forward-thinking community committed to sustainability and innovation.”
