LAWRENCE AWARDED GRANT BY CHARLES SCHWAB DONATION PROGRAM
Funding to Assist Live Longer in Lawrence Initiative
Lawrence, IN – Mayor Deb Whitfield announced today that the city has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Charles Schwab Donation Program to assist with the city’s Live Longer in Lawrence initiative. The mayor said the funding will help launch a Live Longer in Lawrence Ambassador Program.
The City’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Kunzer, explained that the Ambassador Program would consist of community health advocates from each of the city’s eight distinct neighborhoods—Lanesville, Fort Ben, The Pike, Indian Lake, Sunnyside, Geist’s Edge, Oaklandon, and The Ridge—who will bring health education programs to the neighborhood level. “Additionally, the funding may be used for some dietitian time to work with local restaurants on Live Longer in Lawrence healthy meal options,” said Dr. Kunzer. “We are grateful for this donation as we continue to expand our Live Longer in Lawrence initiative to every corner of our city,” said Mayor Whitfield.
The Schwab Donor-Advised Fund is a charitable giving vehicle that allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions and recommend grants to qualified charities. It acts as a “charitable checking account,” offering immediate tax benefits while providing flexibility in when to support nonprofits.
