Lawrence Special Event Application Process

May 26, 2026

Planning a large event in Lawrence? Please make sure you obtain a Special Event Permit before promoting or hosting your event. You can download the Special Event Application here.

A permit is required for:
• Events with more than 100 attendees
• Festivals, concerts, and community gatherings
• Events in parks or public spaces
• Street closures, vendors, tents, stages, or amplified sound

The City’s Special Events Code helps ensure events are safe, organized, and successful for everyone involved. Permits help the City coordinate important services like:

• Public safety and emergency access
• Traffic and parking management
• Park and facility usage
• Sanitation and cleanup
• Vendor and food safety compliance

Applications should be submitted at least 45 days before the event date to allow time for review and coordination.

Events held without the required permit may be shut down and organizers may be responsible for fines or City cost recovery fees.

Our goal is to help make community events safe, successful, and enjoyable for everyone.

For more information or to apply for a Special Event Permit, please contact the City of Lawrence Department of Public Works at 317-545-8787 or permits@cityoflawrence.org.
