URBAN GREEN GOVERNANCE TREE PLANTING SET FOR LAWRENCE
Richardt Park sight for educational tree planting this Saturday
Lawrence, IN – Mayor Deb Whitfield along with the City’s Urban Green Governance (UGG) Fellow, representatives from Indiana University’s Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI), and other community leaders will participate in an educational tree planting this Saturday, October 17th at Richardt Park, 4510 Richardt Ave. in Lawrence.
The event will begin at 9:30am and will feature the planting of ten new trees at no cost to the city. The ten trees are part of the city’s participation in ERI’s UGG Cohort during which the city has had the benefit of an Indiana University graduate student as a UGG Fellow who is drafting what will be the city’s first ever Urban Forestry Master Plan, expected to be completed yet this Fall.
“We have been proud and honored to be a part of IU’s Urban Green Governance Cohort this season,” Whitfield said. “Our Administration is determined to make Lawrence a more sustainable and environmentally resilient community. Protecting and developing our urban canopy is key to this and our Live Longer in Lawrence initiative,” said the Mayor.
Among the donated trees to be planted, one will be an American Plum, two Gingkoes, six Redbuds, and one Northern Oak. The public are invited to attend.
