Statement Regarding Recent ICE Activity

The following statement can be attributed to City of Lawrence Mayor Deb Whitfield regarding recent ICE activity 

I want to reiterate and build on what I said recently about reported ICE activity in Lawrence. ICE did not contact my office, and I share the concerns many in our community have about immigration enforcement and ICE’s presence here.

Lawrence is a welcoming community, a city of broad shoulders. Our Administration remains committed to public safety and to making sure every neighbor feels welcome, respected, and safe.

The City of Lawrence has a clear policy governing how the Lawrence Police Department interacts with federal immigration authorities. We will continue to follow that policy, provide accurate information, and serve our entire community with professionalism and dignity.
