Keeping Lawrence Roads Safe This Winter

Our Streets, Parks, and Utilities crews work together each winter to ensure Lawrence roads stay safe and accessible. Before a storm arrives, teams pretreat streets with salt brine to prevent snow and ice from bonding to the pavement. When major snow hits, crews mobilize to plow and clear roads as quickly and safely as possible.
If you notice dark lines on the roadway, that’s the brine solution in action—an important part of the City’s anti-icing strategy.
