LFD maintains tradition; retires 2004 engine and puts new equipment into service at Station 36
March 21, 2019

Common Council Vice President Tom Shevlot, LFD Chief Dino Batalis, Captain Adam Reine, and Mayor Steve Collier took part in ceremonies at Station 36 today to officially put the city's new fire engine into service. Located on Oaklandon Road, the ceremony included the tradition of spraying the new engine with water from the retired engine as firefighters from Lawrence pushed the new equipment into its bay until it is needed for a call. Batalis said the retired vehicle was purchased in 2004 with a projected lifespan of 5-7 years. "The new engine features state-of-the-art equipment to assist our firefighters in protecting lives and property. We're grateful for the leadership and fiscal responsibility that have enabled us to replace this engine." said Batalis.
